I am one of the lucky people who always knew what I wanted to do when I grew up. Since I was a little girl, I would sit and experiment all different styles of make up artistry wiping it off and starting again – I loved the creativity!
As I grew older and continued in this industry, it really shone through to me how even the smallest of beauty treatments can lift someone and it was then I realised these treatments shouldn’t be looked at as vanity. I really believe they are an important part of self-care which in turn promotes the type of confidence that shines from the inside out. After all, that is where beauty begins - on the inside.
For a while now I haven’t enjoyed the direction society is going in, people feeling inadequate for not looking a certain way, one generic look for all to try and achieve. When really, our imperfections are what make us beautiful and unique! We feel jealous of people we barely know from what we see online through filtered pictures, how crazy is that? Another person’s beauty is not the absence of your own.
My friend once told me a story of how her 8 year old daughter pointed to her stretch marks one day and in complete awe said ‘Wow mum!!...how can I get those cool stripes on my body??!’. I found it so touching and really got me thinking… we need to try and reverse the damage social media has done to our self-esteem and learn to love our individuality again.
Beauty treatments shouldn’t be used to mask or change ourselves through pressures of feeling inferior, they should be some well-deserved tranquillity in our lives making you look and feel the best possible version of YOU.
